PART 8: 2011 Western American Road Trip, The Grand Canyon
We left Greg’s place around noon and headed north to the Grand Canyon. The challenge was getting there before dark.
Everything here is new and pristine.
My GPS didn’t think the road I was on existed.
Stunning scenery.
Stopped at a gas station in Flagstaff. The Seville was gasping for air at this high elevation (6900 ft) and struggled to restart. It felt like I was towing a house.
Heading north on 64/180 to the canyon.
Small airport.
Entrance. $25 for the car gets you in for a week.
We got there just in time for sunset, which was perfect.
Some water down there.
That’s a bench.
Wait, what’s that back there?
What are they doing?
It’s quite windy.
And they’re walking out to the edge.
Looks like a bad idea.
I guess no one died.
Souvenir shop. I bought a magnet.
Got dark just as we left. We arrived, I believe, at an ideal viewing time.
Had some trouble restarting the car in this high elevation, but after a few cranks we were good to go.
